No forceful land acquisition, Tawang MLAs assures SMRF

TAWANG, Aug 13: After the May 2 Police firing that claimed lives two of anti mega power projects, MLA Lumla Jambey Tashi and MLA Tawang Tsering Tashi have said that no land acquisition would be done without the consent of the villagers and the land owners. They said that their interest is of paramount importance and all efforts would be made to safeguard those.

They said this in a meeting held on Saturday in Tawang regarding the mega Hydro Power projects within Tawang district.

Save Mon Region Federation (SMRF), spearheading the movement against big power projects in Mon Region attended the meeting.

SMRF led by its President Lama Lobsang Phuntsok submitted a resolution signed by the landowners against the Tawang HEP (Stage I & II) under NHPC.

Deputy Commissioner Sang Phuntsok reiterated on the mandatory nature of FRA 2006 and taking cue from the quote of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama which reads '21st Century is the Century of Dialogue', said that we should strive towards bringing peace by putting an end to trust deficits and communication gaps through means of dialogue.

Speaking on the same lines, Chairman DoKAA Jambey Wangdi said that channels for discussion should always be kept open and at no cost peace and tranquility of the region should be hampered.

It was decided that a series of meeting would be held in coming days so as to form a road map for subsequent discussion on the subject. DIPRO.

Meanwhile, SMRF is reportedly planning to go ahead with its protest at Tawang Old Bazar demanding action against Anto Alphonse, who was the SP when the killings at the hands of the Police happened on May 2.

Alphonse has since been made the SP, Telecom.

Tainted Rajkhowa rejoins Raj Bhavan

ITANAGAR, Aug 13: The Governor JP Rajkhowa has rejoined Raj Bhavan, more than a month after he availed medical leave.

Rajkhowa has been in news following the recent Supreme Court Verdict dealing with the Governor's powers where his decision to advance the session of the legislative assembly without seeking the advice of the state govt was questioned. His decision to advance the session led the state to an unprecedented political crisis as well violence in the streets of the capital and imposition of President's rule.

A Governor cannot embroil himself in any "political thicket" or take an "individual call" when an elected government enjoys majority in the House, Supreme Court had said in its verdict on July 13.

The apex court held that the Governor cannot be an "overriding authority" over the people's representatives and there can be no interference at his behest so long as the democratic process in the assembly functioned through a majority government.

In its 331-page landmark unanimous verdict, it said the Governor must keep clear of any political horse-trading and even unsavoury manipulations and avoid acting as the "ombudsman" of the state legislature.

A five-judge constitution bench headed by Justice J S Khehar held that when the Chief Minister and his council of Ministers have majority in the House, power vested with the Governor under Article 174 of the Constitution to summon, prorogue and dissolve the House must be exercised in consonance with their aid and advice and this was binding.

"It is not within the realm of the Governor to embroil himself in any political thicket. The Governor must remain aloof from any disagreement, discord, disharmony, discontent or dissension, within individual political parties."

"The activities within a political party, confirming turbulence, or unrest within its ranks, are beyond the concern of the Governor. The Governor must keep clear of any political horse-trading, and even unsavoury political manipulations, irrespective of the degree of their ethical repulsiveness," the bench, also comprising Justices Dipak Misra, Madan B Lokur, P C Ghose and N V Ramana, said.

Dealing with the Governor's powers, the bench said it is not within his domain to interfere with the functions of the Speaker, as the Governor is neither a guide, nor a mentor to the Speaker and has no role whatsoever in the removal of Speaker or Deputy Speaker.

Meanwhile, the PRO, Raj Bhavan reports that Chief Minister Pema Khandu called on the Governor on Saturday. During the meeting, Rajkhowa expressed the hope that the State Government under the leadership of Khandu will rise to the expectations of the people.

BJP alleges misappropriation of forests fund

ITANAGAR, Aug 13: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Arunachal Pradesh State unit has alleged misappropriation of more than Rs one crore meant for various works at Mauling Wildlife Division, Jengging, Upper Siang ‘without physical achievements.’

Providing a copy of the inspection report submitted to Chief Conservator of Forest, Central Arunachal Circle, Pasighat by Additional Deputy Conservator of Forest, I/c, CMS, Pasighat, the party stated that most of the works executed during 2014-15 and 2015-16 at Mauling Wildlife Division were not as per the norms and the quality were very poor.

The party said that although the inspection report was already submitted to the higher authorities of the Department of Environment and Forest, no action has been initiated yet against the erring officials.

The State BJP demanded that the government officials responsible for misappropriation of government fund meant for Mauling Wildlife Division should be booked under CSS rules and disciplinary action initiated at the earliest.

IGP to investigate Pul case

ITANAGAR, Aug 13: Chief Minister has directed that a senior Police Officer not below the rank of Inspector General of Police investigate case of the former Chief Minister Kalikho Pul’s death.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu said this in a high level meeting with the senior officers headed by Chief Secretary, Director General of Police and Principal Secretary (Home) as they reviewed the law and order situation of the twin-capital city at Chief Minister’s Secretariat today.

He also reviewed the security arrangements for the Independence Day Celebration and the Civil Secretariat building.

Four houses reduced to ashes in Dumporijo

DAPORIJO, Aug 13: Four houses have been gutted in a devastating fire accident at Dumporijo on Friday.

Fire accident occurred at around 2 AM, which suddenly broke out from a type-II Govt quarter at teacher’s colony when everyone was sleeping in the house.

Family members of Tadu Nguki, President, District youth Congress, Upper Subansiri, who was also one of victims, reportedly had narrow escaped from fire as the main entry door was caught in fire. However, they broke the back side of the house and escaped.

Cause of the fire is reportedly due to electric short-circuit from a kutcha house.

Cash amounting to Rs Three Lakhs and other household properties including local ornaments were reduced to ashes.

Fire tenders from Dumporijo and Daporijo reached the spot and managed to prevent the fire from further spreading.

Meantime locals MLAs Paknga Bage and Dikto Yekar visited the victims and assured to extend their assistance.

Plan to lessen traffic chaos in Itanagar, committee submits report

ITANAGAR, Aug 13: The committee headed by Secretary to CM Sonam Chombey to look into reduction of traffic congestion in Itanagar has submitted its report to the govt on Saturday.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu had constituted a committee under the chairmanship of Sonam Chombey, along with the DC Capital Complex, ADM Capital Complex, Director (Transport) and Supdt of Police (Traffic) as other members.

After going through several deliberations, the committee submitted its report to the govt.

In the report, several short term and medium term proposals were submitted. It is proposed to convert several sector roads as one way with the National Highway being open for the two way traffic. Also, the busy locations where there is heavy traffic,’ no traffic zones ‘will be notified. For the successful implementation of the proposed traffic plan, it is proposed to deploy manpower from the available police forces and traffic warden so that on ground, implementation can be started immediately without delay. Initially, a trial will be done in Itanagar and if successful, then it will be implemented in Naharlagun and nearby locations.

It is proposed to constitute a task force under the chairmanship of DC Capital with SP Capital, ADM and Director (Transport) as members to enforce the proposal submitted for reduction in traffic congestion.

Pema has desired that the trail should be implemented in Itanagar on pilot basis from Aug 20 onwards and public suggestions will be invited during the implementation for the modification of proposal. He also directed that the plan should be implemented after proper publicity in the media.

The Chief Secretary and the DGP assured of providing full support in terms of manpower or any other requirements for the implementation of the plan. DIPRO

Students meet Kiren on refugee and ILP issues

NEW DELHI, Aug 13: A team of All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union (AAPSU) led by its vigilance vice chairman Jango Halai along with coordination committee of Changlang, Longding, Lohit, Anjaw, Namsai, Dibang Valley, Lower Dibang Valley & Tirap (CLLANDT), a body consisting of student community of eight districts of eastern Arunachal Pradesh led by its chairman Manlem Wangsu met MoS for Home Kiren Rijiju here on Saturday regarding refugee issue and ILP.

During the meeting, the unions expressing concern over the increasing population of the Chakma and Hajong refugees in the Changlang, Namsai and Lohit districts submitted a memorandum to the MoS asking him to confine the refugees within their original designated blocks/habitation.

According to the delegation the Chakma and Hajong refugees have also been encroaching tracts of reserved forest.

The local indigenous populace is slowly being outnumbered by the refugees. In Bordumsa and Diyun sub-division, the local population of Singpho tribe has already become minority in their own homeland, the delegation said.

The refugees has encroached vast tracts of reserved forest, community land and the mountains destroying the flora and fauna to accommodate their surging population and the local population are at their mercy, the unions said in its representation. Adding concern to the local people is the verdict of the Supreme Court on dated September 17 granting citizenship to the refugees, it added.

Also alleging that there are numerous criminal activities meted out by the Chakma and Hajong refugees against the local tribal inhabitants, the unions asserted that the day is not far when the SC’s verdict will have a far reaching ramification on local indigenous population.

While referring to Eastern Bengal Frontier Regulation Act, 1873, the students bodies demanded strict regulation of Inner Line Permit and questioned on how the Chakma and Hajongs who are neither APST nor Indians have be allowed to enter and stay in Arunachal Pradesh without ILP and RAP.

Establishment of paramilitary battalion headquarters/training centre at Kathan Village in Lohit district and rehabilitation and job opportunities for the youths of insurgency hit districts of Tirap Changlang and Longding were also two of the other demands put forward in front of the MoS by the unions.

Meanwhile, it was informed that Rijiju has assured to look into the demands of the students on priority basis.

Namsai meet for effective implementation of CFP

NAMSAI, Aug 13: The first preliminary Namsai District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DDCMC) meeting was held at the office chamber of DC here on Saturday for effective coordination of central government programme.

Altogether 16 departments took part in the meeting.

Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein said that to promote synergy and convergence for greater impact, efforts has to be made to ensure the participation of people’s representatives at all levels and successful implementation of flagship programme of central government.

Mein said that Namsai being a new district, most of the developmental data are required to be bifurcated from the erstwhile Lohit. He directed the officers of all departments to prepare the report on both ongoing and proposed schemes of all CSS pertaining to Namsai district immediately.

Highlighting the importance of the rural development programmes, DC R.K.Sharma, who is also the member secretary of the DDCMC, sought active participation and cooperation of the members to implement the centrally sponsored schemes in the district as they are meant to bring a sea change in the economic conditions of the rural populace.

Project Director DRDA B.Talukdar and Namsai MLA Chau Zingnu Namchoom also spoke on the occasion.

Former MLA, litterateur Tumpak Ete passes away

ITANAGAR, Aug 13: Former MLA Tumpak Ete passed away on Saturday at his Aalo residence, at the age of 78 years. He was suffering from ailments related to old age for quite some time.

A native of Kugi (Pomte) village, Ete served the state government as a circle officer from 1965 to 1972, before being elected as MLA and serving the state in that capacity from 1979 to 1984.

Besides being a statesman, Ete was considered an eloquent composer of Donyi Polo prayer songs in the Galo language. These songs are now sung at Gamgis (prayer halls) across the state. Some of his notable compositions are Tage Tanyi, Hedi Hekor, Abo Ge Doyi, and Nyirmen.

He was also the Director of the Galo Folk Literature Centre from 1972 to till the time of his demise. He was instrumental in having Mopin festival celebrated centrally in 1966 for the first time. Mopin later became the state’s first officially recognized festival.

Ete’s last rites will be conducted at his Aalo residence on Sunday. He is survived by his wife, two sons, and several grandchildren.

Committee for mini oil refinery in Changlang

NEW DELHI, Aug 13: The coordination committee of CLLANDT representing eight districts viz. Changlang, Longding, Lohit, Anjaw, Namsai, Dibang Valley, Lower Dibang Valley & Tirap has sought for establishment of a mini oil refinery in the Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh.

In a memorandum submitted to MoS (Independent Charge) Petroleum & Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan on Saturday, the committee led by its chairman Manlem Wangsu apprised the minister that Changlang, being one of the mine and mineral resourceful district of the state has huge quantity of crude oil, coal, timber etc abundantly available everywhere.

Also expressing resentment that the crude oil found in Kharsang and Manabum (Kumchai) areas of Changlang district are extracted and taken away to Assam Oil Refineries for further process befitting job opportunities to the local people of others states like Assam and leaving devoid to youth of Arunachal unemployed, the committee appealed the MoS to take keen steps in establishing a refinery in the district taking into consideration the interest of the public and unemployed youth.

On 09 Aug 2016, Arunachal lost one of the most popular Chief Ministers of the State. Though Late Kalikho Pul was Chief Minister for few months only, he stood out as a Chief Minister of the masses. He stood in the rain to inspect work, walked through mud and waded through water to visit facilities as a common man, visited patients in ordinary hospitals inside and outside the state and pushed a punishing schedule. He conducted the popular Janata Darbars at the Chief Minister's residence and stayed for hours listening and solving the numerous problems put up to him by the commoners.

The State is in mourning to pay respect to the departed soul. Condolence messages are pouring in from every nook and corner of the State and from many parts of the Country. The State had declared three days of mourning and a holiday on 11 Aug.

The social/electronic and print media, Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp and others are abuzz with theories and conspiracy theories of the reasons for the demise of the popular leader.

The many high level inquiries ordered most probably will not prove much. But many in their hearts know the reasons. We live in a world full of Avarice, Gluttony and Lust. Avarice is "excessive love of money and power"; Gluttony is "overindulgence in food, drink or intoxicants". Deceit, corruption and money power are the weapons of the day. There seems to be no ethics or morality. Switching parties and loyalties appears as routine as changing clothes!

Our state was rocked by repeated political crisis in the last about seven to eight months. The State has seen three Chief Ministers, multiple Deputy CMs, Speakers, Governors, Ministers and Parliamentary Secretaries in the last seven months. In this period, the governments vacillated between different political parties and groups. There were numerous controversies regarding constitution, laws, appointments and disappointments. With the conditions remaining same, legal luminaries and judges interpreted the constitution, laws differently. Judgements were repeatedly turned and overturned by various courts, high courts and supreme courts. The ruling and opposition camps rotated through revolving doors as the courts passed varying judgements. In the meantime, governance and development took a back seat with the common man remaining mute spectators of the unfurling political jamboree.

Clashes occurred on the streets, in the State Assembly and Make Shift Assembly. There were animal sacrifices and semi clad protests organised on the streets of the capital. Many officiating appointments were reverted back to junior posts, many transfers were affected /cancelled and critical decisions reverted back. With the Supreme Court nullifying the reign of Kalikho Pul, many questions were raised about the validity of decisions taken during his tenure. This led to confusion all around.

All of us had a role to play in this sorry state of affairs of the state. In each role... as a Govt employee, lawyer/banker/professional, businessman, media person, teacher/lecturer, villager, we contributed in small measures to the system. If the system is good, we all have made it good. If the system is bad, we all have to share the blame. We cannot keep blaming the politicians only. We elected them. We cannot keep blaming the bureaucrats, engineers and govt officers for corruption. We offered them money and gifts. We cannot keep blaming officers and politicians for unfair practices and back door entries. We forced them to use their influence and powers for our short term benefits.

In the death of Kalikho Pul, as Arunachalese and as Indians, we need to learn lessons and correct ourselves. If we do not see the writing on the wall, more such losses are likely to occur. The power to correct society rests on the index finger of our hands by exercising ballots with full responsibility. As the saying goes "You only get what you deserve". Jai Arunachal, Jai Hind!!

Mein reviews law and order

NAMSAI, Aug 13: In order to review the overall security scenario and arrangements for Independence Day celebration in Namsai district, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein on Saturday chaired a meeting with Deputy Commissioner R.K.Sharma and DIG (East) Apur Bitin at Namsai.

MLA Namsai Chow Zingnu Namchoom, SP C.K.Mein and EAC Mahadevpur H.N.Dubey also took part at the meeting.

DIG (E) Bitin presented a detailed assessment of law and order situation as well as security scenario for the Independence Day Celebration. He informed that all security arrangement has been geared up to increase vigil and enhanced security and law order measures in the district.

DCM Mein laid emphasis on effective coordination and quick communication at all levels for quicker response and enhanced measures on security and law and order front. He asked the DIG to lay special emphasis on maintenance of law and order situation.

Later, in another meeting, DCM Mein reviewed aftermath of flood situation. The meeting besides addressing the immediate relief and reparations also brought to table the future course of action and the need for concerted action on the part of the district administration.

Directing the district administration, Mein emphasized on providing compensation immediately for rehabilitation of flood affected people still staying at the relief camps. He also called for regular and continuous supply of relief materials to the affected people. He directed the concerned department to complete the assessment of flood damage immediately and for mobilizing of ration commodities to actual flood victims.

DCM also directed the district administration to expedite relief and rehabilitation works including civic repairs etc in the areas that were adversely impacted by the onslaught of rains.

DCM Mein accompanied by DC R.K.Sharma with senior officers and public leaders visited and inspected the affected areas and relief camps at Mahaloni, Podumuni and Krishnapur villages under Lekang circle.

Meanwhile, MLA Namsai Chau Zingnu Namchoom also inspected the affected areas under his constituency and took stock of the situation. (PRO)

APST bus flagged off at Manmao

JAIRAMPUR, Aug 13: A new APST bus that will ply between Manmao to Margherita, Assam was flagged off by Nampong-Jairampur MLA Laisam Simai on Saturday.

Simai said that it was long felt demand of the public for a new APST bus service from circle headquarters to Margherita, Assam. He also advised the public to treat the bus as their own property and prevent anyone from defacing it.

Jairampur ADC SS Chowdhury, Senior Station Superintendent, APST Miao, Assistant Station Superintendent, APST Margherita, HoDs of Jairampur sub division, panchayat leaders and public leaders were present at the flagging off ceremony.

Later, MLA Laisam Simai inaugurated the new conference hall of EAC office, Manmao. A development meeting of Manmao circle was also held where various upcoming projects were discussed. The meeting was participated by HoDs, public and panchayat leaders of Manmao circle.

ITANAGAR, Aug 13: Laa Talar and his younger sister Laa Yajum won the men and women’s Single titles in the 4th Dorjee Khandu Memorial State Open Badminton Championship, which concluded at Raj Bhawan Badminton Stadium here on Saturday.

Talar defeated his double partner Jokom Ribya while Yajum beat Pinki Karki in the finals to win the titles.

Talar pairing with Jokom Ribya also won the Men's Double title.

Talar and Jokom beat the duo of Ambita Sonam and Rahul Thapa in 2-1 sets in a highly contested final match.

In Women's Double, Pinki Karki and Taring Yanya beat Taw Yanya and Boni Yapu to win title.

Laa Talar pairing with Laa Yajum also won the Mixed Double title. They beat the pair of Rahul Thapa and Tania Yasap.

Pinki Karki won the Girls U-19 Single title defeating Laa Yajum.

Sonam Tamang won the Boys U-19 Single title beating Aksay Raito.

The pair of Sonam Tamang and Biki Lakai won the Boys U-19 double title. Sonam and Biki beat the pair of Rahul Thapa and Aksay Raito.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu attended the final day and witnessed couple of final matches at Raj Bhawan Badminton Stadium.

Cheta FC lift 9th Naba Ita Pulu Memorial Football Trophy

ROING, Aug 13: Cheta FC lifted the 9th Naba Ita Pulu Memorial Football Tournament trophy defeating IRE FC 3-0 in the final played at general ground here on Saturday. The scorers were Satish Melo (2) and Ella Mega (1).

Bayron Karap of IRE FC and Panku Mega of Cheta FC were adjudged as Best Player and Best Goalkeeper of the tournament respectively. Michael Meto of Desali FC became the highest scorers.

Cash prize of Rs 50,000 was awarded to winning team along with the coveted trophy. The runners up IRE FC and first runners up Koronu FC were awarded Rs 30,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively.

A total of 20 teams, including two teams from Dibang Valley and one from Lohit, participated in the tournament.

The closing ceremony was attended by local MLA Mutchu Mithi, Deputy Commissioner Ravi Dhavan, Panchayat members among others.

The Tournament was organized by District Olympic Association with support of the District Sports Department and the District Administration.

Itanagar Solung Football Tournament semifinal line up complete

ITANAGAR, Aug 13: Solung United FC (SUFC) stormed into the semifinal trouncing Donggin Yameng FC 6-1 in the third quarter-final match of the Itanagar Solung Football Tournament at APPBn Ground, Chimpu near here on Saturday.

SUFC shot into lead three minutes into the match through goal from Tagam Tatak. Taja Bonung netted two goals, while Natem Taying, Tayar Tasing and General Modi scored one goal each to complete the drubbing of the team.

The consolation goal for Donggin Yameng FC was scored by John Passar.

For BUFC, Toni Lego scored the lone goal.

Pending electricity bill cleared

ITANAGAR, Aug 13: The pending electricity bill of Arunachal Bhawan in Mumbai was paid by Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh giving much relief to the cancer patients living in Arunachal Bhawan in Mumbai.

According to Arunachal Students' Union Mumbai (ASUM), the payment was made by the Chief Minister from his own source.

Further, he assured to take strict action against the concern officer.

It is pertinent to mention here that, the power supply to Arunachal Bhawan in Mumbai was disconnected by MSEB on Friday due to non-payment of the pending bills.

Before the disconnection, the electricity authority in Maharashtra had served several notices to pay the bill. ASUM also repeatedly appealed to the State Government to clear the pending electricity bill. But the State Government had waited till the disconnection.

Lok Adalat disposes 169 cases

ITANAGAR, Aug 13: Out of 1087 cases taken up, a total of 169 cases were disposed off involving over Rs 1.85 lakhs in the Lok Adalats conducted across the state. The Lok Adalats for Money Suit, Bank Matter, Criminal Cases & maintenance were held in the courts of District & Sessions Judge, Yupia and other courts in Basar, Bomdila, Khonsa, Yupia, Daporijo on Saturday.

Chief Judicial Magistrate, Yupia settled highest number of cases with 45 cases involving over Rs 75000/-.

Eight cases involving Rs 16,93,551 were settled in the court of Additional District & Sessions Judge, Basar out of total 61 cases (bank matters).

The numbers of cases settled in various other courts were District & Sessions Judge, Tezu (4), Additional District & Sessions Judge, Bomdila (14), Chief Judicial Magistrate Roing (27), Chief Judicial Magistrate, Ziro (8), Chief Judicial Magistrate,Seppa (16), Judicial Magistrate First Class,Daporijo (3), Judicial Magistrate First Class,Yupia (8) and Judicial Magistrate First Class,Tawang (11).

The court of District & Sessions Judge,Yupia could not settle even a single case out of total 16 MACT cases. Judicial Magistrate First Class, Khonsa also could not settle any case out of 4 cases.

Highway projects fund for Arunachal approved

NEW DELHI, Aug 13: Government has approved Rs 1,911 crore highway projects for six states, including Arunachal.

"The standing finance committee (SFC) has approved six road projects in Nagaland, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Uttarakhand and Arunachal Pradesh to be built at a cost of an estimated Rs 1,910.87 crore," an official said.

Arunachal Pradesh will see a stretch to be widened at a cost of Rs 44 crore.

The official said SFC approved the NH-61 stretch in Nagaland for an estimated Rs 343 crore,

besides upgradation of Rayachoti-Kadapa stretch on NH-18 for an estimated Rs 350 crore in Andhra Pradesh.

In Maharashtra, it gave nod to two-laning of Nagpur-Umred-Bramhapur-Armori stretch for Rs 269 crore and reconstruction and widening of a highway stretch on NH-94 in Uttarakhand for Rs 209 crore.

Two projects in Karnataka relating to widening of Bidar to Humanabad section of NH-50 for a cost of Rs 367 crore and a stretch on NH-150 for Rs 39 crore were also approved. PTI

Citizens come out to repair town roads

CHANGLANG, Aug 13: The damaged roads within Changlang Township were repaired on self help basis by the citizens of the town on Saturday.

Led by local MLA Tesam Pongte and Deputy Commissioner, Wayomg Khimhun people including all government employees, public, students, staff, CRPF and departments repaired the roads near Industry and Monday market by filling it with gravels, sands, etc. The damaged roads had been creating various problems to the commuters for last many days.

Further, the road points at the main market, near craft centre, kerosene depot, Govt HSS, Changlang, Dhobi line were also repaired. Later the repaired roads were made compact with road roller to make it last longer.

The road leading to DC office via New Changlang village was also repaired in many places, while the garbage and weeds on the road sides were cleaned.

International Youth Day observed

ITANAGAR, Aug 13: The International Youth Day was observed at Don Bosco Youth Centre, here on Friday. About 200 students of Donyi Polo Vidhya Bhavan, VKV, VCS, Arunodaya and Homeopathic Medical College attended a programme organized on the occasion by NSS and Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Youth Development.

Addressing the students, Director of Higher and Technical Education, Dr Tejum Padu advised the youths to work hard and oppose evils like terrorism and drug addiction.

NSS, State Liaison Officer, Dr. VN Sharma, Director, National Child Development Council, Mepung, and Fr. Mathayi also urged the youths to know the importance of social service, sustainable development as well as evils of drugs etc.

Earlier in the day, a rally was also organized which was flagged off by Principal of North Eastern Homeopathic Medical College, Dr. R Santara.

The Day was also observed by the Indo Global Social Service Society (SMILE) in association with All Ziro Hapoli Youth Association at Abotani Hall, Hapoli on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion, Joint Director of Skill Development Gyati Mali called upon the youths to sharpen their skill for survival in life in addition to their academic degrees.

Over 700 benefit from med camps

ITANAGAR, Aug 13: Over 750 patients were screened and medicines were distributed free of cost by a mobile medical team of Vivekananda Kendra, Arun Jyoti, which had been conducting five medical camps in flood-affected Namsai district from Aug 8 to 12 last.

The camps were organized at Mahadevpur I, New Silatoo, Philobari and Woisali villages of Lekang Circle and Menkeng Miri of Namsai Circle. Most of the patients were suffering from cough, cold, fever, skin diseases and various water-borne diseases.

The medical team also advised the village elders, youths and students to take special care and consume only clean drinking water during flood.

Apart from Namsai, CDPO, members of the All Lekang Youth and Student Union (ALYSU) and Adi Student's Union of Lekang block extended their support to the camps.

Mini Marathon for Swachh Bharat Mission

ROING, Aug 13: A Mini Marathon themed 'Run for Cleanliness' conducted under public awareness component of Swachh Bharat Mission, was flagged off from Meka Tinali to DUDA View Point Deopani, here on Saturday by Roing, MLA, Mutchu Mithi.

Later, a mass social service was also conducted in the entire Roing township with the participation of government officers, school children paramilitary forces and Bazar committees.

At Seppa, a mass cleanliness drive was also conducted along the township's roads as part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan here on Saturday by the DUDA along with various organizations and NGOs comprising of East Kameng Chamber of Commerce & Industries, Bazar Welfare Committee, Women Welfare Organization, Changtam Aane, Mothers' Group and others.

MLA, Tapuk Taku, who also took part in the drive, exhorted the participants to carry out such activities regularly and help spread awareness among the masses about the benefits of health and hygiene.

ITANAGAR, Aug 13: Volunteers of Eco-Tourism Society of Arunachal Pradesh, a local NGO along with students of Doimukh Higher Secondary School conducted a cleanliness drive-cum-awareness campaign from A- sector Tempo stand to Legi Complex , here on Saturday.

During the drive which was conducted under the supervision of Ward No.18 Councilor, Gora Lothak, the Society appealed to all the shopkeepers of the area to keep their surroundings neat and clean.

TAWANG, Aug 13: A marathon with the theme 'Ek kadam swatchhta ki aur' was conducted at Lumla on Friday for spreading the message of cleanliness.

Many hit the road as Lumla MLA Jambey Tashi flagged off the mini marathon at Mangnam village. The marathon was divided into seven segments consisting of students (boys and girls), women, general public, govt. staffs, public leaders and officers.

The runners ran 7 kms to the finish line at Lumla general ground via Manpat bazaar. The marathon was organised by Yuva Arunachal and Lumla Sports Club.

Speaking before the flagging off, MLA Tashi emphasized on cleanliness, health and hygiene. Expressing happiness over the significant rise in cleanliness and health consciousness among the people, Tashi informed that comprehensive cleanliness action plan covering the entire constituency has been chalked out and various measures are being taken to undertake special cleanliness campaigns. He also urged the people to spread message of cleanliness amongst family, friends and society at large.

Legal awareness camp held

AALO, Aug 13: A legal awareness camp was held under the chairmanship of CJM-Cum-CJ (Senior Division)-Cum-DLSA, Member Secretary, Tage Halley at SFS College, Yeggo here on Saturday.

In his inaugural address, Halley spoke about access to justice for all under Legal Service Authority Act, 1987. He said that it is important to know fundamental legal parameters as responsible citizens. 'The awareness camp is a maiden effort to highlight the legal rights and give access to justice to the college fraternity', he added.

During the technical session, advocate Rikge Romin dwelt at length on fundamental rights and duties in India while, advocate Gekar Angu elaborated on Para Legal Volunteers Scheme.

Further advocates Karken Angu, Tari Rame, Kebom Taso, Todak Ado and Minrik Nochi spoke on topics like women's right to protect from Domestic Violence, Arunachal Pradesh Victim Compensation Scheme 2011, Consumer Rights, Lok Adalat and Plea Bargaining respectively. (DIPRO)

Taloh inaugurates upgraded Upper Primary School

PANGIN, Aug 13: Industries, Textiles, Handloom, Handicraft and Cooperation Minister Tapang Taloh has inaugurated the upgraded Upper Primary School, Koreng in presence of a large number of people including Govt officers from various departments on Saturday.

In his inaugural address, Taloh, while describing the teachers as nation builder, advised them to dedicate in their profession for quality education.

Speaking on the occasion, Pangin ADC Tamik Talom has appealed to the people to extend cooperation with the teaching community for better and quality education. Further, he appealed the SMC to protect and preserve the school properties as the Govt will not sanction fund time and again for maintenance or renovation for the school infrastructure.
